Computer Graphics - 4299 Words

Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer graphics has made computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data. Developments in computer graphics have had a profound impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry. Overview The term computer graphics has been used in a broad sense to describe almost everything on computers that is not text or sound. Typically, the term computer graphics refers to several different things: †¢ the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer †¢ the various†¦show more content†¦Another example is that Sutherlands software modeled objects - not just a picture of objects. In other words, with a model of a car, one could change the size of the tires without affecting the rest of the car. It could stretch the body of the car without deforming the tires. These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas modern day graphics are Raster based using pixels. Further 1960s developments Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written for the DEC PDP-1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP-1 owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program on every new PDP-1 before shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when installing new units, would run the worlds first video game for their new customers. E. E. Zajac, a scientist at Bell Telephone Laboratory (BTL), created a film called Simulation of a two-giro gravity attitude control system in 1963.[5] In this computer generated film, Zajac showed how the attitude of a satellite could be altered as it orbits the Earth. He created the animation on an IBM 7090 mainframe computer. Also at BTL, Ken Knowlton, Frank Sindon and Michael Noll started working in the computer graphics field. Sindon created a film called Force, Mass and Motion illustrating Newtons laws of motion inShow MoreRelatedComputer Graphic Design Essay1868 Words   |  8 PagesComputer Graphics Design has changed in many ways over the years. In the beginning there were 2-Dimensional shapes such as you would see in the game â€Å"Pong.† Many years later, graphics improved, changing from 2-Dimensional shapes into 3-Dimensional characters, which are standard in video games, movies, and television today. There are many different image types for graphics: 2D computer graphics, pixel art, vector graphics, 3D computers graphics, and computer animation. Over the years, computer graphicRead MoreComputer Components: The Graphics Card796 Words   |  3 Pages Introduction The Graphics Card is computer component in most modern day PCs. The Card uses the PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) or PCI-E (PCI Express) slots on the motherboard. It’s used to show all of the visuals on the computer screen: it can use the following: DIV (Digital Visual Interface), VGA (Video Graphics Array), and HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output. The oldest of the three is VGA; VGA was made in 1987 and still used to this day. The next one used is DVI. DVI isRead MoreSocial, Ethical, and Legal Issues in Computer Graphics1727 Words   |  7 PagesComputers in some form are in almost everything these days. From Toasters to Televisions, just about all-electronic things have some form of processor in them. This is a very large change from the way it used to be, when a computer that would take up an entire room and weighed tons of pounds has the same amount of power as a scientific calculator. The changes that computers have undergone in the last 40 years have been colossal. Closely related to image processing are computer graphics and computer vision. In computer graphics, images are manually made from physical models of objects, environments, and lighting, instead of being acquired (via imaging devices such as cameras) from natural scenes, as in most animated movies. Computer vision, on the other hand, is often considered high-level image processing out of which a machine/computer/software intends to decipher the physical contents of an imageRead MoreDesigning A Computer Model Of A Human Body1336 Words   |  6 Pagesor animation from any 2D or 3D model with the help of computer programs.
